Shoshanna Lonstein Gruss, the designer behind her namesake line Shoshanna, debuted its first collection in November of 1998. It had begun with a line of resort dresses, bags, and summer-chic sandals, the original intention of creating clothes specifically for the spring and summer seasons. Yet within a few years the label expanded to designing collections for every season, all of which, no matter what time of the year, channeled a fresh and whimsical vibe the label is well known for.
It can be said that Shoshanna’s dresses and vibrant prints are a bit reminiscent of Diane Von Furstenberg’s dresses and colorful prints. Yet Shoshanna is able to bring not just the element of fresh patterns and bright colors to the consumer. She brings about a youthful outlook to the sophisticated cuts, whether it be with slight details and cuts. All of which are done sophiscatedly and sexily. The shapes of the dresses are made to fit those with curvier, hourglass body types. With hemlines and cuts perfectly tailored to enhance the woman’s body, Shoshanna – the designer – understands what a woman wants and needs in a dress to feel beautiful.
Her most recent collection debuts a line of dresses with already-there accessories: necklaces in rich colors and stones are sewn onto the actual dresses not just as ornamentation, but also of practical embellishment. It saves the wearer time in deciding what accessories match or not, providing the perfect amount of detail to balance an otherwise simplistic dress or blouse.
The dresses and tops also bring about an unspoken flirtation, with keyholes cute here and there for a hint of skin – for that perfect amount to execute demure and effortless sexiness, without the appearance of trying too hard or looking tacky. Everything is done with impeccable sophistication to bring the fun and uninhibited woman from within out. By transforming classic shapes with fresh prints and brilliant colors, Shoshanna is for, without a doubt, every woman.
