One of the youngest designers to receive the title "British Designer of the Year" - which he actually won 4 times, Alexander McQueen made a name for himself that is synonymous with new and cutting edge. Known for his unconventional designs and shock tactics, his short but brilliant career included being awarded "International Designer of the Year" at the Council of Fashion Designers Awards. Acting as Creative Director of Gucci Group since 2001, McQueen's edgy and often controversial runway collections earned him the title - the hooligan of English fashion. A favorite designer with such names as Rihanna, Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Sarah Jessica Parker, Bjork and so many others, McQueen also received much attention for several of his extreme pieces that have been worn by the equally extreme Lady Gaga. Anna Wintour was quoted as saying, "He brought a uniquely British sense of daring and aesthetic fearlessness to the global stage of fashion. In such a short career, Alexander McQueen's influence was astonishing -- from street style, to music culture and the world's museums."
For all that he gave to the fashion world, Alexander McQueen will be missed.
